Aprenda o uso correto de "à toa" e 'a toa'

 A gramática normativa da língua portuguesa é eivada (cheia) de 'pegadinhas'. No registro formal da língua, precisamos ter muito cuidado com tais ciladas criadas pelas convenções humanas.

Vamos primeiro à palavra 'toa', significando 'corda' ou 'cabo de aço' para rebocar navios.

O verbo cognato (ou seja, que possui a mesma raiz) é 'atoar', significando 'rebocar navios' por meio desta corda ou cabo de aço.

À toa (escrito com crase) pode ser tanto locução adverbial (ex.: ele está à toa), como adjetiva (ex.: ele é um a toa). Com o novo acordo ortográfico de 2009 o hífen desta última caiu.

William Holden, por sua vez, foi também um pioneiro do ativismo ecológico! E isto acaba numa história de amor com outro ícone de Hollywood, embora mais recente: Stefanie Powers. Mas vamos ao início:

Em 17 de abril de 1918, nascia William Franklin Beedle,  na cidade de O’Fallon, no estado de  Illinois, filho de um químico industral e de uma professora escolar. Ele tinha dois irmãos mais jovens, Robert e Richard.
